West Side‘s Welding Fabrication team took a medal gold again today— the ninth consecutive year in statewide SkillsUSA competition — at Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs. Travis Gentry, Ruston Holt, and Anthony Kohman make up the Fab team. The team will compete in National Skills in June. Asa Carr finished with a second-place Silver Medal in General Welding, adding to his two Bronze medals. Also competing in state competition were Brenton Knapp in General Welding and Kaleb Smith and Willow Passmore in Pipe Welding. Welding instructor Randy Carr, who has worked hundreds of hours preparing students in the classroom and after school hours, expects to find out in the next week or two where those students placed. Members of the West Side team in the picture (from left) are Brenton Knapp, Asa Carr, Ruston Holt, Travis Gentry, instructor Randy Carr, Anthony Kohman, Kaleb Smith, and Willow Passmore.
