As part of their unit on Veterans Day, Mrs. Teresa's GT students recently had Tyler Lisenbee share with classes about his military career in the Air Force and Air National Guard.



The Elementary Chess Club recently got to participate in a chess workshop with other students at the Arch Ford Coop. The kids even got to meet the queen!

Mrs. Amy Gentry recently invited Andrea Fortner to speak to classes about mental health. Ms. Fortner is from the Arkansas AWARE Program funded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. She talked to our students about emotional intelligence and how you can manage your own emotions and understand the emotions of people around you.


Nurse Rachel had a health fair during parent-teacher conferences with several local businesses present. WRMC Drasco Medical Clinic, Greers Ferry Baptist Health Clinic, Baptist Health Medical Center, Lake Life Nutrition, Fairfield Bay Parks and Rec, and K-12 Culinary along with West Side's own, Missy Carr. FFA member, Elley Thompson, competed at the Arkansas State Fair with her Narragansett turkeys and received a 2nd place ribbon.

Mrs. Teresa's GT students shared their countries & states projects with families at Parent Teacher Conferences last week. The students did an excellent job of researching and sharing what they learned.




On Tuesday, October 24th, our 7-12 students will be traveling to Shirley High School Auditorium to listen to a very special guest speaker, Kevin Hines. Kevin Hines is a storyteller. He is a best selling author, global public speaker, and award winning documentary filmmaker. In the Year 2000, Kevin attempted to take his life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Many factors contributed to his miraculous survival including a sea lion which kept him afloat until the Coast Guard arrived. Kevin now travels the world sharing his story of hope, healing, and recovery while teaching people of all ages the art of wellness & the ability to survive pain with true resilience.

The West Side eSports Splatoon team earned the school's highest-ever midseason ranking, placing 7th in the current Arkansas state standings. The "Turtle Tyrants" team of Caleb Cross, Maggie Ott, Emily Clark and team captain Kolby Lockard have a 3-1 match record, and a 9-3 game record. Lockard is among the top-ranked players in the state.
