What's Your Favorite Part of West Side?
Mrs. Stephanie’s Principles of Banking students participated in an escape room activity prepared by Arch Ford CTE Instructional Facilitator - Micah Edwards. Students were faced with multiple challenges that involved making common bank teller transactions and deciphering puzzles and clues related to banking services available and common terminology. Their grand prize for “escaping” was a box of donuts

Custodian Appreciation Day
Most people might know Mr.Johnny Ramsey as the guy who fixes computers when they are not working. When asked what he does, Ramsey says that he does “all things IT”. In a school that's a lot of things. Some examples are making sure the bells and doors are on schedule and that all security cameras are working as they should. When asked if he gets appreciation for what he does Ramsey says the appreciation he gets is "very unique”. He said, 'I don’t get a thank you most times but I don't know of any person that doesn't appreciate someone helping them and getting it done quickly.’ Even though most people don’t say thank you he still feels appreciated. He said helping people is also what motivates him to continue working as hard as he does. The final question he was asked was, “If there are any, what are the downsides of your job”? Ramsey answered this by saying “ The only downside to this job is when I can’t fix something immediately.” So next time you see Mr.Johnny Ramsey you might want to give him a thank you or even an atta boy because I know we all appreciate it when our Chromebooks work.

It was a tough start to the fall season for West Side eSports as the Super Smash Bros. team fell to Bauxite, 1-3, the Mario Kart team lost to West Fork 0-2, and the Fortnite Duos team was defeated by Walnut Ridge, 0-2. After graduating an outstanding group of seniors last spring, eSports is rebuilding with mostly underclassmen who are competing hard and getting better by the day!

Peggy Davidson, affectionately known as “Mrs. Peggy” by her students and colleagues, has been teaching for 44 years. Of those years, 43 of them have been spent at the West Side School District. Davidson says that West Side holds a special place in her heart. “West Side is home,” Davidson says. “I started at West Side at age 6 and have continued off and on throughout the years.” Davidson has taught first, second, and third grade. Her advice to other teachers is to learn to love every part of the job. “Have a passion for teaching and a desire for students to succeed,” Davidson says. “Realize that students learn in different ways and at different times. Many times you have to play other roles other than just a teacher.”
