Cleburne County Judge Jerry Holmes on September 10, 2021 has issued a Burn Ban for Cleburne County
Julie Wallace, co-principal of Quitman Public Schools, works with the West Side District Guiding Coalition during a training session on Thursday. Wallace is a practitioner of the PLC Project and works with Solution Tree, a company known nationwide for helping schools transform culture and achievement. Members of the Guiding Coalition who be leading the PLC process at West Side are superintendent Dr. Brandi Wallace, high school principal Sarah Shannon, elementary principal James Housdan, instructional facilitator Audra Stewart, dyslexia coordinator Debbie Brown, curriculum coordinator Matt Irwin, and teachers Stacy Akers, Devin Carr, Timothy Hardin, Debbie Smith, Sonjia Sutterfield, and Ricki Stevens.
West Side Boys also finished up second out of 4 schools in the 1A-4A division this week. Seniors Brenton Knapp finished 11th and Asa Carr finished 14th, with Travis Gentry and freshman, Max Gipson tying for 5th place.
West Side Lady Eagles Golf lost for only the 2nd time in their match career (27-2) to the 2 time defending 4A State Champions (Brookland) by only 2 strokes. Seniors Kendra Harness finished 1st, Emma Johnson finished 4th, and Kortnee Finch finished 8th. The girls took 2nd overall in the match.
The Eagle Cross Country teams ran their first race of the season at Melbourne High School on Tuesday. The Junior Lady Eagles finished 2nd as a team overall with Lainee Gentry receiving the 7th place medal. The Senior Lady Eagles finished first as a team overall with Kadence Dilks 6th, Ashtyn Knapp 9th, Mckenna Knapp 14th, and Sidney Severns 15th. Carson Stark finished 6th for the Eagles.

Mrs. Holly’s Shaw World Geography class, including Bella Dewberry, Bradley Hansen, Cassandra Salazar, Jenah Ramsey, Cassie Sorrells, and Destiny Ramsey, put their skills of using coordinates to good use of Friday playing Battleship.

Elementary and high school math teachers learning new instructional math routines today. The training was led by the Arch Ford Educational Service Cooperative specialists.
