West Side Metal Fab Team 2nd in Nation
West Side’s welding program continues to reach new heights, with the Metal Fabrication Team of Peyton Dean, Austin Murphree, and Nate Smith finishing runner-up in competition at the National Leadership & Skills Conference. They took the podium this evening at a sold-out ceremony in Louisville, Ky. The Metal Fab team competed against some of the nation’s best welders by completing a project that requires blueprint reading, teamwork, and attention to detail.
During April’s state competition, the Metal Fab team finished first, which secured their spot in this week’s national competition. In between the events, they spent hundreds of hours working with instructor Randy Carr and others to hone their skills. Tristen Cottrell, who was first in Arkansas SkillsUSA competition, also competed at NLSC. His final ranking is not yet known, but he did not finish in the Top 3.
West Side School District currently has two vacancies on the Board of Education. One vacancy will be filled by the Cleburne County Quorum Court. The other will be filled by the West Side Board of Education. Board appointments are until the next election. Each position will be up for election in May 2019 for the remainder of the respective term. Reminder, appointees must currently reside within the West Side School District boundaries and must be a registered voter within the district boundaries.

Lady Eagles Represented at All-Star Classic
Ciara Roberson, a senior on the Lady Eagles, played in the North Central Arkansas All-Star Basketball Classic Saturday at Izard County High School in Brockwell. She received an invitation to play as one of north-central Arkansas’ top players.
Roberson scored 4 points for the “visitors” team.

PLAYERS, COACH REPRESENT WS AT ALL-STAR CLASSIC
West Side was well represented at the North Central Arkansas All-Star Basketball Classic yesterday at Izard County High School in Brockwell with a coach and two players competing.
Coach Shane Davis coached the boys “home” team, which also included two West Side seniors, Joe Freeland and Dawson Gardner. Freeland scored 3 and Gardner, 2.
During the regular season, Davis’s senior boys won 12 games, and the 7th grade boys and junior boys finished with a combined 43-1.
