Mr. Caleb's 5th graders are learning about the Declaration of Independence and recently got to sign their own copy of the document!

Positive Office Referral: Mason Thomas
Mason is always one of the most positive and sweetest kids in class. He is nice and helpful to everybody, and he makes me smile every time we talk. He's a great role model for the other kids. (Jesse Rawls)

Positive Office Referrals: Austin Ubelhor and Alex Morehead

At our monthly assembly, we always have to have a little fun at the expense of our wonderful students! These students who received a Positive Office Referral in February competed in a friendly hula hoop contest! They were great sports and very entertaining!

We also gave a Special Recognition award to Mrs. Michelle French. Mrs. Michelle goes above and beyond to keep our entire campus clean. She often puts in more time than usual to get extra work done when others are out. She is constantly on the move AND with a smile on her face. Thank you for all you do!

The Senior Class held on to win the highest average daily attendance for February! We are so proud of all of our students for improving their attendance this month. All of our grade levels had 95% or above this month! The Seniors had 97% attendance!!! Great leaders and role models.

Our February Student of the Month for grades 7-9 is Abigail Schmidt. She may be a quiet young lady, but she is always kind, helpful, and willing to work. Thank you!

Today we celebrated our great staff, students, and faculty. Our February Staff Member of the Month is Mrs. Kaylen Rogers. Her colleagues and students wanted to honor her "huge heart" that she has for students. "She is one of the most kind-hearted and genuine people I know," one colleague stated about her. She steps in to help in all capacities when needed. Congratulations!

Today we celebrated our great faculty, staff, and students!
Our February WSHS Teacher of the Month is Mrs. Holly Shaw. Some of the comments students wrote about her included:
"She has helped me and motivated me so much over the past 3 years. She helped me when I just didn't feel good about myself and she'd just say something positive or give me a compliment. She cares so much about her students whether its inside or outside of school."
Congratulations!!!

The softball team opens its season at 4:30 pm today against Quitman at City of Colleges Park in Conway. The softball and baseball schedules are located at https://sites.google.com/a/westsideeagles.org/sports-information/home

West Side families,
Have you ever wondered what school feels like for students with characteristics of dyslexia? We encourage you to participate in our dyslexia simulation which will give you an idea of the additional challenges faced by these learners each day. Come join Miss Debbie in the elementary conference room Monday, March 6, 2023, from 5:30-6:00 p.m. for this dyslexia simulation and leave with a better understanding of our young readers with characteristics of dyslexia.
Hang around afterward to hear the elementary Eagle Choir perform and check out all of the enrichment activities that have been going on at West Side Elementary.

Students in Mrs. Orene's class have been learning about decision-making with a partner as well as GRIT (to never give up). Students worked hard and only a few gave up when building the tallest tower.

West Side 3rd-6th grade will have a family Enrichment Night on Monday, March 6th from 5:30-6:30 in the main elementary building. We will be showing off what students have been doing in archery, SOAR, technology class, art club, and EAST. The science lab will also be open as well as the GT room. The Eagle Choir will perform at 6 pm in the old cafeteria.

STAR STUDENT: PIPER VERSER
Congratulations to Piper Verser for being selected as Mrs. Michelle's 1st grade Star Student for the month! Officer Crispell presented Piper with a certificate and water bottle for demonstrating honesty in the classroom. Way to go, Piper!
