State Champs to be Recognized
Basketball games on two nights this week will feature special presentations recognizing state champions. Honored on Tuesday will be the 2010, 2014, and 2015 girls golf teams; on Friday, it will be the 2014 and 2015 boys cross country teams. A short ceremony to honor coaches and team members will be held during halftime of the senior girls games.
On Tuesday, February 6, the 2012 and 2013 tennis doubles state champions will be feted.
January 30 — 2010, 2014, and 2015 Girls Golf
February 2 — 2014, 2015 Boys XC
February 6 2012, 2013 Tennis Doubles
On all three nights, the junior high games begin at 5 p.m. with Senior Girls and Senior Boys games to follow.
Timbo Games Rescheduled for Monday
The home basketball ballgames scheduled for tonight vs. Timbo have been rescheduled for Monday, January 22, with the Junior Boys tipping off at 5 p.m. The Senior Girls and Senior Boys games will follow.
Games 7th grade and junior high games originally scheduled for January 22 vs. Guy-Perkins have been canceled.

Order of Friday night's basketball games at Conway St Joseph has changed. Senior Boys will tipoff at 5:30, Senior Girls will play after.

The order of Monday’s home basketball games in Brady-Hipp Arena versus South Side has changed.
Tipoff of the Junior Boys game will be at 5 p.m. The order for remaining games is 7th Grade girls, 7th Grade boys, and Junior Girls.

Officer Leavins and K-9 Endy
A big thank you goes out to Sheriff Pruitt from Searcy County for allowing Deputy Leavins and K-9 Endy to come to our campus today. We also want to thank our new School Resource Officer, Macy Brown, for making the arrangements.
West Side School District would to welcome and introduce you to our new School Resource Officer, Macy Brown. We've asked SRO Brown to share a little bit about his background in law enforcement.
My name is Macy Brown. I have worked in law enforcement since 2007. I started my career as a Van Buren County Detention Officer. I moved to patrol in 2008 and went to the Police Academy in January of 2009. The next three years I served as as a Deputy for the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office. Following that, I transferred to the Searcy County Sheriff's Office where I was a K-9 Handler. Shortly after moving to Searcy County I was offered a job with the 20th Drug Task Force. I worked with the 20th Drug Task Force for 5 years until moving back to Van Buren County in January of 2017. I spent a year working with the Criminal Investigations Division before accepting this position in January of 2018. I am looking forward to being a part of the West Side School District Team and getting to know the students, staff and parents of our community.

Hey Folks, Little Dribbler update: The performance scheduled for Tuesday this week WILL NOT BE MADE UP. The K-1 Dribbler's LAST practice will be Mon. Jan. 22. Their LAST performance will be Tues. Jan 23. K-1 will need to be in the new gym by 5:00 pm in order to perform at halftime of the Jr. Boys Game. 2-3 Dribblers need to be in the new gym by 5:30 pm and will perform right after the Jr. Boys game. Pee Wee Basketball: Peewee Wee games are at Rural Special this Saturday, Jan. 20 starting at 9am. Both 4th grade teams, both 5th grade teams and 6th grade boys will be playing. No 6th grade girls games.

Good morning just a, a reminder... Students (especially those at bus stops) and staff should layer clothing to dress warmly. Even light wind with the cold temps can lead to frostbite in minutes.
Wise words from another school district … To parents and friends, because we have today off, this would be a god time to wash jackets, hats, book bags, lunch boxes, etc., and help us to fight the spread of influenza and viruses. You may want to wipe items with a Clorox-type of wipe if washing is not recommended. (You may first want to check color-fastness on an inconspicuous area.) Please, help keep all your children, other people, and teachers healthy!
