Parents, staff, and students, please remember that drivers cannot use a cell phone or device when in the school zone or when the vehicle is moving in school parking lots. We want adults and children to be safe! And, we don't want anyone to receive a ticket. #Soaring2NewHeights

Just a reminder of Elementary Handbook rules, parents picking up children from school must remain in the vehicle while waiting for their child to arrive. This is intended to ensure security and to make leaving campus safer for everyone. #Soaring2NewHeights

Our new superintendent, Dr. Brandi Wallace, is starting her 21st year in education. She and her husband, Matt have two children-Emily and Ty. Dr. Wallace is super excited to work with staff and students to make West Side the best district in Arkansas!

When teachers returned to campus for professional learning, new superintendent Dr. Brandi Wallace wanted a time for staff members -- in the Elementary and the High School -- to work on collaboration and teamwork. She put another new employee, Audra Stewart, in charge. and she worked with veteran Amy Gentry, who planned a teamwork challenge in three parts. One of the challenges was to create cheers to welcome back students. We hope you enjoy this video, a compilation of the team cheers ...

All students and all staff are strongly encouraged to wear face masks. Other health protocols such as social distancing and hand washing will be practiced to the greatest extent possible. Students and staff will be screened for temperature daily. Parents are expected to screen students at home before sending a child to school. No child who has fever of 100.4 degrees F or greater should come to school or has a persistent cough or shortness of breath.

Parents and students, tonight is open house from 5 to 7 p.m. We request that only students and parents attend in order to limit the number of people on campus. Elementary parents will enter at the Office and be escorted to the child's building. High school parents will enter the old cafetorium to pick up student schedules and be able to visit classrooms. Masks are strongly recommended. #Soaring2NewHeights
West Side staff spent part of Tuesday morning getting to know each other through some fun team-building activities. These activities, during four days of professional development, were designed to help build positive relationships across the district as well as to get the teachers excited about the upcoming year. The activities included a campus scavenger hunt, Escape Room activity, and a very competitive cheer competition! These all required the staff to work together as a mixed K-12 team. The cheer competition allowed the teachers to show off their school spirit as well as some hidden skills!

Free GED classes are offered on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. at West Side Schools. For information, please contact Debbie Smith at the school, (501) 825-6258. #Soaring2NewHeights

Parents must contact the district Point of Contact if a student has close contact with some who is COVID-positive or a student tests positive for COVID-19. (501) 691-5964
