Slight Dress Code Change at WSHS
West Side Staff
Thursday, August 02, 2018

Parents and students shopping for school-appropriate clothing on Arkansas’ tax-free weekend should know that a couple of changes have been made to the high school dress code for the coming year.

The highlights of the 2018-19 expectations of dress:

  • Shirts and tops must have a strap 2 ½ inches wide with a length sufficient to be tucked into the waistband
  • Shorts must reach the top of a dollar bill held horizontally at the top of the knee, known as the “dollar bill rule”
  • Skirts must strike the top of the knee while standing
  • Leggings and tight-knit pants, etc., may be worn with a dress, skirt, or a shirt as long as the highest point of the shirt’s hem falls naturally below the buttocks and groin area.

The full policy on appropriate dress is Rule 106 in the section of Level I consequences. The full 2018-19 Student Handbook is available on the High School webpage.
