West Side Eagles joined 24 other schools in competing in the Melbourne Bearkatz Invitational Cross Country Meet on September 4, 2018.
Bringing home medals for the senior girls division of 83 competitors were first place Haley Gentry with a time of 22:09.63 and Alex Southerland, coming in eighth at 24:08.15. The team finished in sixth place.
The Eagles junior boys also had two runners to earn medals, In the pack of 141 runners, Travis Gentry placed sixth in the 1.55 mile run with a time of 9:20.56. Dax Hipp, crossing the finish line in 15th place, was clocked at 9:55.65. With strong finishes from fellow teammates, the team earned second place honors. Expectations run high for these young men to continue to improve and earn top honors in this rugged sport.
The Junior Lady Eagles, led by Mckenna Knapp placing 27 of 120 runners, came in ninth place as a team. The young, inexperienced team of five 7th graders and one 8th grader show great potential for growth and continued progress in becoming a strong competitive team.
Dawson Inzer, West Side's only senior high boy competitor, gave a solid performance with a time of 24:20.09.
West Side's next competition will be at Josh Park in Heber Springs on September 11.
