Parents and students shopping for school-appropriate clothing on Arkansas’ tax-free weekend should know that a couple of changes have been made to the high school dress code for the coming year.
The highlights of the 2018-19 expectations of dress:
- Shirts and tops must have a strap 2 ½ inches wide with a length sufficient to be tucked into the waistband
- Shorts must reach the top of a dollar bill held horizontally at the top of the knee, known as the “dollar bill rule”
- Skirts must strike the top of the knee while standing
- Leggings and tight-knit pants, etc., may be worn with a dress, skirt, or a shirt as long as the highest point of the shirt’s hem falls naturally below the buttocks and groin area.
